Fabbo Friday and A chick leaves the nest

We have now reached a truly exciting stage of the renovation in our Little Brick Cottage: Daisy's bedroom. Until now Daisy has been sleeping with us and we've used the front bedroom as an office. I've loved having her with us for this extended time as I am a Mother Hen who enjoys her family all together under my wing, but Daisy is now ready for her own room.

While the interior is painted and the floorboards finished we’re houseminding by the sea. Over the last few years we’ve been fortunate to be able to do this whilst Ma and Pa enjoy their trips to England.

Here is a photo of Daisy in her bedroom-to-be. I bought some vintage fairy print curtains from my EBay which, along with a little French china poodle, the chandelier and vintage children fairy tale books, are forming the inspiration for how I want the room to look. The shabby blue paint job was by the previous tenants and I can't wait to get rid of it. We are fortunate in the small cottage to have good bones in that the ceilings are very high and every room has original features such as fireplaces or leadlight windows. We took the other doors back to the original wood with the exception of the bedrooms. As we are most likely going to be reselling in the future we don't know if it's worth the expense as lovely as the old doors look with the original woodwork.

Because of the massive moving and all the to-and-fro between two houses there hasn't been a lot of writing happening this week. I miss it terribly and cannot wait until life settles down a little so I can do more. I hope you have a lovely weekend and get to relax and do wonderful creative and fun things with people you love. xx

  2. Lucky Daisy! It looks like her rooms have lovely high ceilings and I love the little chandelier... a perfect place for her to dream :)

I know what it is like to be so busy you don't get any writing done... are you working on another book? xo

  3. Cat, I'm not sure if you would want to be there at the moment! Although the painting has already started and David tells me that even the undercoat looked fab. Yes, I can't get enough of chandeliers. I'm with you there. I badly wanted one in the shed but the Scribe put his foot down. I'm always in debates with builders who want to install strobe lighting.
Jennifer, I am working on a mystery novel set between the 1930s and present day. I've done the first draft and I'm editing it now. I also have another complete novel which is a supernatural historical which I have to go back and rework after I send Poets Cottage off to my agent. My first three published books are all fantastical and so I've jumped around a bit. Between Miss Daisy and the renovation it has been tricky but I've never stopped working. (Just slowed down a lot!)xx

  4. Dear Josephine, why am I not surprised to hear of and see such a beautiful room, in a house that suits your 'old soul'? Already, it looks mystical and magical, and such a beautiful place for Daisy to dream in. I just know the rest of the house will follow suit, and I can't wait to hear of your decorating escapades. It seems that all of us girls love the romantic / french / old-worldy type of decor and treasures. I know that this will be such a great setting for your novels, and a great inspiration to write more.... Please keep us updated when you can.

  6. Looks lovely - will be great to see the finished result - Daisy is a very lucky lady - though I know you will miss having her so near in the mornings! How come you think you'll be moving again soon - or have I read that wrong?

You're so lucky to be a published author...I just need to keep at it really and not give up! xxx

  7. Hello Josephine

Daisy has a beautiful room, lucky girl. It has such character,I love it! No wonder you don't have as much time to yourself with all the work going on. It will pay off though.
Ooh did I sympathise with you on your previous post. The spider incident...brrr. I feel the same way about them too. I was bitten in the back as a child and still have a scar. We have big black house spiders, they are appearing more now because of autumn. We fitted a spider deterrant in the house last year but we still get some.

I like the sound of your mystery 1930's and present day novel! Will look out for more on that.

I wish you a lovely weekend!
    Take care

  9. Looking to be an elegant and most beautiful room for a young princess. . .
I'm sure she will miss, and you will miss sleeping together but this is a great thing for her to have freedom and independance that comes from having ones own space. .
    Good for you both.
